Ashby-Tucker is an environmental consulting firm that has experience across a broad spectrum of environmental science and engineering, including assessment and design, and the regulatory environment in which those fields operate. We also have significant experience and expertise in worker exposure and safety.
We specialize in litigation support and technical project management of complex legal cases.

Litigation Support
Ashby-Tucker excels in litigation consulting and support, and expert witness services in complex environmental and safety matters. Our expertise and experience is broad, and includes human health, safety and environmental risk, environmental forensics, and impacts that affect groundwater, surface water, soil and air.
Mining
Ashby-Tucker specializes in mining related environmental impacts, investigations, and remediation for coal and non-coal mining. We are experts in identifying problem areas from both pre- and post-SMCRA operations, including a deep knowledge of mining history, waste management practices, and environmental impacts - especially those to surface water and groundwater. Our expertise includes remediation and management of these problem areas to improve environmental quality, which is our main focus in all we do.
Oil and Gas
We have extensive experience in the regulatory aspects of oil and gas drilling, production and transmission, including permitting of these facilities. We are also experienced in assessing and remediating environmental impacts from these operations not just through more traditional legal avenues, but by also successfully working in the RCRA and CERCLA frameworks to address these issues for land owners.

D. Scott Simonton, PE, PhD - Principal Engineer
A registered Professional Engineer in multiple states, Scott has over 30 years of experience in environmental engineering and compliance. A USMC and US Army veteran, Scott's professional experience includes state regulatory agencies, regional and national engineering firms, and academia - where he is a Professor of Environmental, Safety and Health. Scott has served as an expert witness and/or litigation consultant in over 75 cases, and has provided deposition, hearing and trial testimony in State and Federal Courts. He served for 15 years as a member of the WV Environmental Quality Board, a quasi-judicial Board of review responsible for hearing appeals regarding permits and enforcement decisions rendered by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Water and Waste Management.
